Hey guys, i need some advice for a box im building. How many cubes should i have for my one hdc315 copper with 1500 rms ported. and what frequency, i checked out there site and they recommend 40 but i have heard alot of people say it sounds better at 35. Advice?

Thanks

I'm about to build a new box for my HDC18, its gonna be 7 cubes at 32hz.

You probably got one of the newer, 2 spider HDCs, and the Fs on those is lower than the original 3 spider versions. I'd do 4 cubes at 32hz, simply because you're not going to reach thermal limits with 1500watts with an HDC, so you can increase your airspace and get more efficiency.

Ocho, do they have specs out for the newer ones?

And efficiency only goes up around tuning really. So if you like a heavy low end (most do) 4 cubes is good and I agree with Ocho that a lower tuning will be enjoyable.

I had the 12s loved them their heavy spl high note players. They like high tuning low playing over low tuning IMO I tuned at 37 crossed at about 33 was enjoyable and very loud in the 40s 50s. If your goal is to play 33 loud I'd suggest a 35 tune and subsonic about 31.. Over tuning at 33 but that's my opinion.. Their just not a low end sub if u want to get deep lows. But they destroy the highs. Great sub tho for the money doubt u can match them in spl for the dollar.

due to pure mechanical parameters alone, definitely 35Hz for tuning. This driver will sound great even in about 2.25 cubic ft as well (if it will fit..this is just based on parameters right now), as long as the loading of the port is controlled. In a standard Bass reflex, due to the small compression needed, this driver should give a good SQ output if designed correctly. Also, with very good low extension.
