Has anyone....

well i would give them 30 days notice....if u dont walk the apartment w/ them they will **** u on charges for it....and most likly immediatly send it to an outside collection agency.....at least thats been my experience

 
Check your lease and also talk to them. Depending on your state, they might hold you liable for the rent until they get a new tenant in there. Read over your lease carefully and talk to them is the best bet.

At my apartments it costs $1,000 to break the lease and then you have to pay back any specials that you received when moving in (i.e. no move in fees, discounted months of rent, or even in our case 2 free months of rent).

 
You best bet is to find someone to take over your lease for you. It will be a *****, and you may still take a few hundred dollar hit to attract someone willing to rent, but it is usually cheaper than breaking the lease.
