Alright im looking around for a fun rifle that can be used to go hunting. Wouldnt mind some target fun. Have about $800-$900 to spend currently. Have more at tap but would like to keep it around or under $800. Any thoughts?

Thinking about an AR-15, thoughts?

I'm going to be building an ar soon with a buddy of mine he thinks we can get all the parts upper/lower for around a 1000.00, on the other hand I prefer handguns as rifles are a pain to conceal.

Even though they're kind of a bi7ch to clean I have always loved the Ruger Mini 14's. But if you're gonna be shooting .223 you might as well just get an AR of some kind, much easier to clean, and TONS of add-ons and upgradable parts.

the carbon15 from bushmaster is nice and is on sale a lot. Usually right around $600, the link I posted is msrp.Bushmaster - Home Defense & Recreation Rifles

it's **** light as well, I plan to buy the pistol version to make into a SBR

now the biggest problem with the ar15 is the .223 wylde.

It's not very big and makes it a small game rifle mostly.
Well to be honest I hunt maybe 2-3 times a year, if I can get up north. What would you suggest?

oh and another problem is the weird looks you will get if you leave it looking like an AK.

another option is the SKS, it shoots the same 7.62x39 round and looks more traditional.

what do you hunt? I have gone deer hunting with a .223 and dropped the buck with it, but you have to be a good shot. Depending on how far you shoot an AK might be better as the round is much harder hitting, only thing is your sort of limited to iron sites on them unless you use a scope rail. Nothing bigger than deer. I have plenty confidence in my shot.

I keep leaning towards the carbon15, but in the other hand I wouldnt mind a long range rifle for targets
