Gun guys

Get a WASR-10.. i can get them at the Gun shop locally for $350.. few mods and they are by far the funnest rifles to shoot and for under 500$ you can have a modernized AK.. leave a big *** hole in somethin! they also come in .223 for the pansies

When I get mine I am gonna remove the stock and make it a AOW pistol.

Ehhhhh Im gunna disagree there
I've got a $1700 bushmaster, and had a $1500 rock river. I never really found any problems with either. To be honest both of them had meh triggers but that is easily fixed. Go shoot a Wilson Combat AR //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

oh and another problem is the weird looks you will get if you leave it looking like an AK. another option is the SKS, it shoots the same 7.62x39 round and looks more traditional.

That looks just like mine:santa:I also have an AK,and a Mini14.Most reliable top ten rifles in the world is the ak.I was watching a program on Discovery last yr.For deer a 30/30,0r a 35Marlin is nice to have,or 30/06?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/santa.gif.e1ec9cf2e0a0dd232ad35aa594a126d0.gif

Are you planning on open sites or do like scoped? Does your $800 include the scope? Alot of people wind up with a more expensive scope than the gun costs. A Browning A-bolt can be had for around $500+change so you still have some budget left over for scope. Remington 700's aren't bad. bolt actions are very accurate. They force you to take a better shot because very rarely do you get a chance of a second shot.

7mm is a little over kill for white tail deer but that doesn't stop people from having good luck with it.

I have seen a deer walk away from7.62x 54r (mossen nagant) with soft tip hunting ammo.

for small game (coyotes, pairie dogs, and other vermin) and can take down a deer with a good hit is 22-250. It is a very fast round

30-06 is good hunting round.

30-30 is a good brush gun because the bullet is so heavy. It is kind slow so it isn't great long distance round. So if you are wanting to shoot off a wheat field from 200+ yards away I wouldn't recommend it. If you are walking out a forest and having to shoot through small branches it works well.

.243 is a good small game round.

Personally someday I am going to own a 50BMG and shoot a deer down the center weather is it coming at me for running away. I just want to see the faces of people when I hang a shedded carcass on the scales.

Who in the hell Deer hunts with an AK and AR? lol

Good info, but I will disagree with the classification of the .243 as only a good small game round.

I started out deer hunting with the old man's .222 Savage 340D. Outstanding groundhog rifle up to about 150 yards, but really not enough power for deer (though I killed a few!). He found a good deal on a Remington 760 GameMaster, which is the one I have hunted with for 30 years, now.

Good shot placement has allowed me to reach out and kill deer from 300 yards.

Def doesn't have the knock-down power of a 30-06, but I have never lost a deer that I had a clear shot on.

One option that I am surprised not to see talked about yet is the .270....very solid deer round.
