Guidance / Suggestions :: My JL Build - Silverado

Is this the right forum for this?

Thank you in advance...

Prefacing this with - I have a good hookup on JL and Alpine so I would like to stay with them.

My truck : 2011 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab w/ Bose

What I want : single sub under rear seat, preferably keep stock nav unit, upgrade all the speakers

What I like :Listen to anything from rap to house.. I like screaming highs, good all around bass, some good lows (although I don't think can be achieved with this setup)

Currently I am thinking about this setup...

-Keep stock NAV headunit adding JL CleanSweep

-JL C5 6.5 Components up front

-JL C5 5.25 Coaxials rear (or should I do more components?)

-Subthump downfire box 07-2013 GM Crew Cab Single Downfire Box

-JL 10w3v2 or JL12w3v2 or JL13tw5

-All powered off JL XD700/5v2 (or similar?)

Keep in mind if you suggest similar, keep it alpine / JL. I have always have ported boxes and I'm not sure how this box will sound different. Can I get away with keeping this stock headunit with a cleansweep? The box supposedly supports the right volume for all three of these speakers.. Some direction would be great. How are the subs going to differ in sound etc?

Thanks a ton,

-B

It think you are good man. Might want to get some sound deadening done too. sounddeadenershowdown website has a guide to make your car sound proof which will help the sound quality of your system overall.

things to keep in mind, you'll have to use the volume control on the jl cleansweep which will eliminate the steering wheel volume controls.

The cleansweep is not the best unit to use. It will "flatten" the stock EQ but it does not measure it in anyway. It just guesses and normally dont guess right. It does not take in account anything

As for the coax. You wont need or want rear speakers here. The coax will brighten up the high end and pull you to the back of the truck.

its subjective man, some people actually like a balanced sound all around them, not just everything in the front in their face. Depends if the OP likes rear fill or not. He likes screaming highs so it might contribute to his treble craving.

What would I put in the back if not for coax? I thought they would be more of just a full range sound / filler in the back. So the volume control would be on the cleansweep? Which sub do you guys think of the three.. Would I be able to run off the stock nav headunit and just equalize off the amp? (obviously not as good as a nice headunit)

You would put nothing in the back. If you want perfection that's what you do.

As for the clean sweep. Run a real processor like a helix, PS8, JBL MS8. Those would keep all factory function and be better than every aftermarket HU but 1

Losing me...... I wouldn't be running a headunit at all? This is a DD non competition vehicle that is going to have a w3 =/
Have you ever heard a sound quality car? The processor pulls its signal from your stock HU. It will give you more control than you will ever use. 31 band EQ per channel, you can run active up front. One speaker per channel gives you more control to time align. The JBL is easy, it does everything itself but it's doing by measuring unlike the clean sweep. The others require you to plug them into a laptop
