got my mean green alt!

jus got my alt today so i went n got it tested at kragen. it passed and the voltage test read low: 13.7; actual: 14.69; high: 15.7. Like George said there is no amperage reading....planning on gettin it installed on wednesday so i'll letu know how it performs then

my voltage readings iirc were VERY close to what you said. high 13's on the low side, 14.xx on the actual, and 15.xx on the high side. looks promising!

well i got it installed today and the voltage stays at a constan 13.6.....which is a step up from my wavering voltage on my EA that usually stayed around 12.4....i've heard that my jeep (98 grand cherokee) may have voltage regulated by the computer tho which is why it doesnt ever go above 13.6...anyone know if this is true? and if so is it possible to bypass it??

anyone?? 13.6 is alright....but 14+ is dee shiiT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

not sure, but im willing to be it is regulated by the computer.

computer sees battery needs more juice, bumps up the voltage to charge. battery is good? lowers voltage. sure 14+ volts is nice, but i think you should use the dmm and see what kinda voltage drops your gettings. thats really the more important aspect of the alt imo.

btw, is it 13.6v at the battery? or is it 13.6v at the positive side of the alternator? if the batt says 13.6 but the alt says like 13.9 or higher, i would suggest doing the big 3 if you havent, and if you have, switching that power wire to a new one.

"The IVR is the internal voltage regulator and for older vehicle it is in the alternator. However I believe that voltage for your vehicle is regulated by the PCM (vehicles computer).Your best bet is to get the vehicle looked at by a tech to confim the cause of this"

this was the answer to a quesion about a 97 jeep grand cherrokee

yes it is controlled by pcm in your jeep. Yes you can bypass it. There should be 2 small wires that go to the alt. Those are the feild wires. They go to the computer and regulate the voltage. You can just not use the wires and run an external regulator if you wish. What engine is in your grand?

The Engine Is the In-Line 6 Cylinder. It's A 4 Liter.

Big 3 is done. There is virtually no drops between alt and first batt. However, there is about .4 difference between front batt and rear batts.

just order directly from their site. you dont need to phone in an order.

by the way. yes thats their number. infact they called me back using that number to answer a question i left on their answering machine during the weekend.

jdawg: do you happen to know if my 98 ford explorer with a 4.0l v6 OHV is regulated through the pcm? been googling around but cant find any info.

small update: got my 20.1 in and the alt is handling beautifully. Most Drops I Have had is about .3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
