Got my 2 new Type X's installed today.

So are they louder than your L7's? What is the box tuned to, doesn't Kicker recommend a tuning of like forty-something hertz?
never said i could spell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The 10's and the 12's have the exact same motor, exact same everything, except the size of the cone and spider, so the 12's going to be slightly more efficient because of the increase in cone area, and ignorable increase in mass, so hopes of the 10 being louder with the same amount of power probably wont happen, unfortunately.

I would imagine 700 per will be more than enough, i'm sure you wouldn't have gotten the x's if spl was all that was important to you, and you can always add more power later on.

How are you tuning your 10's, btw? You could get nearly the same output, and get good use out of the increased punchiness of the 10" if you tuned a bit higher, no?

yea thats what im saying....like i cant imagine the type x doing "worse" then the d6's, not saying d6's were bad, because they were everything but bad, but becase the Type X is alpines flagship woofer, and im expecting good things....if i dont like the X ill just swap the d6's right back in....hopefully my second X comes in tomorrow

No. There not louder than the L7's but they do sound better overall. Good deep bass hits them lows just right. I'm kinda old(37) so loudness is'nt as much as a facter as it used to be. But don't get me wrong I like it loud but I really like SQ. I'm not sure what that L7's box is tuned to. It's a Pro Box Super Bass Series pre-fab box. Those ones covered with that spray in bed liner stuff. They actually sound good in that box. I am having hell trying to post pics on here or I would show you.You can see some pics on craigslist.org (houston site) under eletronics.

Have to go to work. Later

That's all there is to it.

When you get comfortable with that, you may start experimenting with the other options here:

Allowing a direct cut/paste into your message, or nifty thumbnail link to full-size image (helpful for a series of pic's or big ones), etc.

hehe i just got home from finishing installing my battery, and swapping out my subs for my type x's....and wow words can't describe the difference....they look and sound amazing, and i still havn't gone past half volume.(im goin for a 2 week break in). they hit hard and deep....ill get pics and vids asap probly later this week

I've had a pair of Type X 12"s and yes, they are incredible SQ subs. They just love the nether-regions of sub-bass (and subsonic) in a sealed enclosure. Probably some of the best, if not the best I've personally heard. They do take some power to "wake up". Feed them 1kW each, or a bit more and they're happy. They are not the most efficient or loudest woofs out there but I was able to pull a 141.x dB on music in an SUV with sealed enclosures. Also, you CAN over-power these pups and get them to hit mechanical limits. Carefull on the raw wattage over 1300~ish if you plan to hit them with heavy excursion-loving bass.

I'm a kinda' old dude too and these guys are right at the edge of being a little too brutal for my internal organs. The Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite 12"s definitely went well over that line to me (OMFG!).

I like experimenting, so I'm between badass woofs currently, waiting for something kewl and new to hit the market (using my trusty ol' pair of 10" Infinity Perfect's until then). The new XXX looks hot. Some rumors about interesting/efficient motors from Phoenix Gold too. We'll see.

As it sits, the Type X are definitely among the best woofs I've ever experienced.

I'm glad you're happy with them, kotec.

I got impatient this evening and installed mine in their box. They're looking goooooood!

The 'x' logo is a weird shape, tho, makes the sub look crooked from certain angles, i had to look at the alpine logo at the bottom to make sure they were straight.
