There is a good bit of cooling in most well designed speakers, both active (air cooling) and passive (large chunks of steel for the heat to be soaked up into to be then radiated into the environment, the basket itself also acts as a heat-sink once the top plate is hot enough to transfer heat to it). The coil simply has more resistance than the speaker wire or the tinsel leads, therefore it is heated more.so even if you used a different materal in the coil it would still be the weak link because theres so much wraped up so close with nothing to cool??
