Good morning all! I've got a few questions that I have found some answers to, but still need a bit of clarification.
My project is simple and modest. Using two MTX RT2200 (cheap from ebay!), a MTX 282, a JL 10" 2ohm DVC sub and yet to be determined seperates.
Quesions
1. My car is a 94 Cavalier Convertible, Z24 (no laughing! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif its a good car, and is my "airporter") So trunk space is limited. I would like to mount the amps on the roof of the trunk (inside, I can already here the funny comments). My issue is grounding. I do not think I would get a very good ground by just grounding to the trunk lid, so I may opt to run a cable from the batteries negative post to a grounding block for all 3 amps. Should I use 4 or 0 gauge? I don't plan on adding any more power (amp whise)
2. I would really like to keep the spare tire in the trunk, don't feel like walking, and Mr Murphy and I are close personnel friends. So designing the box for the sub, I only need .7 cubic feet. Not a big fan of trying the fiberglassing route, just not very confident in that arena, but I can work with wood just fine. So, does the actual shape of the box matter, or just internal usable volume? I wan to mount the sub in the rear corner of the trunk and I can make the box out of 3/4" MDF to fit, but it will have a "step pyramid" type shape to it.
3. With a budget of about 200 dollars for seperates, any recomendations? I have listened to quite a few different ones, MB Quart, Kicker, Polk, Boss (YUCK //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/moon.gif.9d317aec3339ffe7fde0638df52c628a.gif ) etc, and they all sound fairly the same. What I am a bit concerned with is with one sub should I by a bit cheaper set of components, say kicker 5.2S and have a 6 inch or so midbass put into the door as well?
4. Thinking along the lines with question 3, are more mid to high range speakers better, or would a nice set of seperates and nice set of 6.5" coaxs in the rear be sufficient. I'm not going for uber SPL or award winning SQ, just something to sound "complete".
Thanks for the help guys/gals!
Rob
