Good budget 5.1 or 7.1 system

Going to Tweeter and Circuit City tonight to look at those. My LR is fairly small 13x12 so I would have speakers a plenty with that setup. I have been also thinking about just adding a sub to my Sony Mini-Shelf until I sell this house and move. Maybe the guys at Tweeter can help me deciding. I plan on drawing up my room layout and Sony system specs/connections so they can see if it will do what I want. I want to add a Blue-Ray/HDDVD combo later (taxes) to the system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

if your going blu ray or hd dvd then no ifs about it you need the onkyo 605 or at least the 604.

ps. most all htib **** behind. i had a yamaha htib that costed me $400 and i took apart the speakers and their rated at 30 watts lol and the receiver claimed to be 120 watts. plus the boxes where shitty... like 1/2" particle board.

i think the b&w and onkyo system would kick behind and so would the onkyo and av 123 speakers.

As far a HTIB systems, I haven't found anything that compares to the Onkyo. They are very well balanced, provide great sound, and their sub is better than some I have heard purchased separately. In total honesty I don't think you would be disappointed getting HT-S790, HT-S990THX, or the new HT-SR800 which has HDMI.

does it pass 1080p?

does it use the audio side?

some receivers are just switchers and limited to 1080i. in switchers i mean they only send the audio to the tv and dont use it.

the onkyo 604-5 are both 1080p and process the audio. just that the 605 is hdmi 1.3 so in the future when theirs an update for the ps3 to send truehd and dts hd ma as bitstream then the receiver will decode those formats until then the ps3 only sends it as pcm which is jsut as good but it only decodes truehd at the moment and with dts hdma you only get the core which is only 1.5 MB like listining to a dts track

I am trying to stay around 1k-1.2k until I get moved. I listened to this one just now at Circuit City:

Denon receiver with Boston speakers. Sounded pretty good and the speakers are low profile.

$899.00 right now

I also looked at this Onkyo but they didn't have it hooked up. The guy I was working with said this is the next best thing in that range and has the 2 HDMI to 1 output which the other one doesn't. This also seemed pretty low profile to me and $799.00 now:

FWIW if you read the reviews on the Denon/Boston Acoustics piece it seems the setup takes a visit to the house by a Pro //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif
