I'm looking for a nice, but affordable 2.1 reciever to hook up to the computer instead of spending money on a crappy computer audio system. I've found a few nice 2-channel recievers under $200 from reputable brands (Sony, Onkyo, Denon, etc), but nothing with a sub out on it, which is a must. any help you guys can give will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

A cheap 5.1 receiver will be your best option.
I dont know of any stereo receivers that have a sub out.
I was thinking that. But I figured I'd look and see anyway.

And I should probably clarify the reason I don't want a "computer speaker system"

The house my parents just bought has speakers wired up in the ceiling in the living room, and they don't sound all that great or get that loud when just hooked up to like a shelf unit. I want to get a decent reciever to push those speakers so we can listen to the radio when working or cooking, and have the receiver hooked up to the computer for parties and such. My computer already has speakers (built into the monitor) and I doubt most of the comp systems out there have a whole lot of power coming out of them.

My vote would be something vintage...Marantz, NAD, and others all made great receivers that IMO beat what's available for that price today.

Why do you absolutely need a sub out? No plate amps available?

I wouldn't mind using a plate amp if this was for home theatre, but this is just for the living room so I can get decent sound out of the computer. Needs to be as discreet as possible because it will be incorporated into the computer desk.

Plate amp will come in downstairs in the family room.
