good $1000 system

Its been quite a while since I had anything but stock sound in my car but I am going to try and save up 1k and buy a decent system. I have a 02 Taurus and am wondering what might be good things to get that fit into my budget. I listen to hard rock and metal mostly, but I like music of all types. So I don't need anything real pounding with bass. A single 10 or 12 would probably be fine with me.

start with a nice deck, and go from there. would u be doin all the work your self?

word, deck first, 4ga. amp kit. any misc stuff like ipod adapters/satellite radio. then replace stock speakers. THEN figure out amps/sub(s)

No theres a car audio place not to far from here that is supposed to be really well thought of. Outrageous audio in Portland, OR. They do installs at a resonable price I hear. I may be able to do a few things but some of it will definitley be done there.

well that 1000 might not go as far as u might think. they will over charge for everything.You might be better off buying your stuff and goin in with it for them to install it for you . If i was you i would see if there is anyguys on here that live near you to give u a hand. You can help them and you would learn how to do some of this stuff. At the shop you will never learn nothing othere then wasting your money. Lets say somthing comes up and the shop is closed you will have to wait its nice to be able to fix things on your own. Anyways i say a single substage would be great for you.

well go there and see what they can do on your budget. if they can't do what all you want done, figure out a plan B. Support your local shop! (if they aren't jerks of course)

start out with best headunit, good component set, 4g wiring kit, amp for component.. and if you have enough left over a single 10" sub and another amp (or just get a 4 channel andrun comps on channel 1&2 and bridge the sub on 3&4)
