ok, im gonna attemp to build my first ported box soon and i was wondering what ill need exactly to do it. i was gonna go to lowes and get:

4x8 sheet mdf

titebond 1 woodglue

2-4 24" bar clamps

silicon caulk

and i believe they will cut you wood for you for like ~.35 cents a cut right?

I already have a drill, drill bits, and I'm hoping that they cut circles at Lowes but i have a jigsaw at home that i could use. I thought screws were only used to hold the box together while the glue was drying, and if you use'd clamps screws weren't necessary?

I wouldn't even consider building a box without screwing it together. Especially with MDF, the glue bond is only skin deep (OK a bit more) and you don't have the grain of the wood to hold the wood itself together. The wood will actually fail before the glue bond but it doesn't take much to cause the wood to fail really.

Lowes isn't going to cut circles, and I wouldn't trust them to make the straight cuts to the correct dim. either. I know Home Depot says to dim +/- .25" and that isn't nearly close enough to build a box with. Find a friend with a table saw if you want good results. You can also get by with a Skil saw if you are patient and use a guide.

gorilla glue is the best, im in the process of actually finishing my box. It was also be good to get a counter-sinking bit to counter-sink your screws so wont be sticking out from the surface.

no gorilla glue is not the best. PV will be along shortly im sure to explain why.

Well that was what i was told. I personally didnt use it because someone told me gorilla glue was better the liquid nail that i was using so i thought from a more experienced person he would be politically correct, but if it isnt, it isnt. I havent really put it to test myself to see how it performs

Tight bond or Elmer's wood glue is the best IMO. I would never use Gorilla glue to build a box. Gorilla glue only bonds to the surface. Elmer's (and like) seeps into the pores of the wood to form a stronger bond.

Well i have had good luck wit the liquid nail so far in my previous builds so thats what i will continue to use. Does anybody know of where to get some spray on bed liner in a can i think i seen it at Lowes but i went there today and couldnt find it. Thinkin about putting that as my box finish
