Going from a 15 to three 8s: Drawbacks

Can I live?
I plan on going from a single Soundstream XXX15 to three Tru Bass Ultra 8s, here in the next couple of weeks, and I was wondering what I'd be losing in this deal. I have 3k on tap for both, and more than 6cuft to dedicate for an enclosure. This is all going in a trunk.

Anybody have experience going from a single 15 to 3-4 8s?

ive done 1 15 to 4 10s...dd9500 to 4 audiobahn 10s...actually the other way around... the 4 10s moved more air and was more of a groundpounder. 1 15 was louder on the meter
I could care less about a meter, just to my ears and a little flex:D

your getting rid of a SPL sub for some 8's, there will be quite a loss of SPL more then likely.
any reason on why you are going to 8's?
I love the sound of the XXX, but I was planning on doing three 8s now, and buying 3 more in the beginning of the year, for a total of 8. In a trunk, because of the dims, I coul get more sound to come back around the box better, rather than having a box for a 15 that blocks most sound from getting back into the cabin. In my experience, trunks USUALLY do better with smaller subs, as opposed to larger ones, and I've had numerous 18s and 15s in this same car. I've had 2 Konaki 1207a's that were just as loud as anything else that was in here. The kist being; Nightshade 18, 05 RE XXX18, TREO CSX 18/hybrid, TREO SSI 15, 3 JL WO 15s, and 2 CVR15s.

I just figured that if I did a box that was a little shorter, it would allow more sound to pass back into the cabin, resulting in a louder setup. Cone area for three 8s would be on par with the single 15, so it should be close at least. When I add the other 3, it should be a bit louder still.......... I hope. Then too, I would have more options to expand, as I couldn't get 2 XXX15s in my car, but I have room for about 8-10 8's

I have gone from 2 x 15" to one 10". To a few ears it seemed louder but on the mic it was not, a 140 to a 143.2 on the meter. This is not an all out SPL vehicle. The 10" is what is still in the vehicle. It just does more with less room.

I do plan on going to 2 x 10" now after the 1 10" performed so well.

You went from two 15's to a single 10 and it sounded louder?? Really? That doesn't make sense does it?

try sealin it off first
Won't work. I have a stuid shaped trunk:verymad:

I did think about trying a 4th order, ported into the cabin

X2, but maybe the 15s were being choked off, and the 10 is in optimum airspace.

Yes it did, why I have no clue. We really expected it to put up a bigger number, it was a little disappointing it did not meter better. Is it good for putting up number's no.

Could I get the 2 x 15" louder yes but I would be giving up all the space in the wifes Expedition. That is not going to happen.

What 10, and what 15s? Box and power? Daily or just burps?
