Going Active

I never really put much thought into my front stage, I have been reading and researching with no luck. I just purchased a set of Hertz HSK 165. I've found 3 amps that I would like and then some one stated to run them active for the best sound. What does that mean and how would I achieve that.

Here is what I have:

HU: DEH-P5100UB

Comps: Hertz HSK 165

No rear speakers and just sold my sub.

AMPs that peak my interest: in this order

ARC KS300.4

Memphis 16-MCA300.4

PPI S320.4

I also have a Fosgate 500a2, would this amp pair well with the HSK's

Do a search. There is a lot of info on running active crossovers.

If you are going to run active I suggest you pick up a pioneer 80prs head unit or similar active head units.

You'd need to start with a HU that has active capabilities.

External crossovers.

Amps with built in active capable

Both of those will allow it

Proccessor

Active HU

Both of those will do it and give you time alignment and a good EQ which you will want.

Before my 4600bt I was looking into the 80prs for the 5v outputs...I should have paid more attention to all it's features instead of making a screen more important... I should of got the 80 prs cause someone stole my 4600bt...

going active is a bit overwhelming if you have no clue what your starting with. its not that hard, well for me it wasnt i used a smd cc-1 to set my crossovers. i used soundqubed amps. its nice but has some work involved. try with the passive crossovers first you might like them enough to not even need to go active.

I just set the crossovers where I think sounds best, and drivers aren't stressed trying to play too far out of their frequency response
