You can choose your crossover points, rather than in passive you have a fixed crossover setting.
but i just figured Oz spent a lot of time and research picking out the optimum xover points for my mid and tweet already...

Well people's musical tastes vary. Some like completely different sounding setups. It's all about your preference. Active is basically picking YOUR own tastes. In some cases, it sounds alot better than passive. But thats an opinion, not a fact. You'll just have to try it out, if you feel passive is good enough, then save your money. If not, buy an active setup, and see if it fits you better, cause you can always sell it later on.

just get one of these like i do and it wouldnt matter

My front stage was $180 total for 4 mids/2tweets and I've heard boxed comps up to $1k and IMO mine kills them...

Changing your current comps to active "might" not make a huge diff, but spending a few hundred on quality drivers and taking the time to dial them in would be well worth it.

if u look at the top stack u can see the model and make of the xover. and the eq part is the same brand but i forgot the model number. image dynamics makes them too

true but quality drivers and DIY setups do kick much more *** then just dialing something in, DIY ACTIVE FTW

Going active isnt the end all be all. In fact its really not practical for many people.

But to someone who is looking to get the most out of their system and try different things it offers much more flexibility.

If you dont want to spend a lot of time to make adjustments or do not have the proper processing, than I usually just recommend a ready to go speaker system.

you'd need a 4 channel amp to go active //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

unless you ran something off your deck lol
