Getting too sound processing

I have slowly been adding to my system and now I am getting to the sound processing part

Right now I have

Alpine Type-X compents powerd by an Alpine TR-220 amp(in custom Kicks)

Two 12" D3's powered by Hifonics Bx1000D(sealed)

I want to purchase an equalizer,my question is will I only need one to control the frequneces that go to both amps? Do eq's act like crossovers?? Eq's are kinda of new to me, my plan is too get a 1/2 din eq to put under my HU.

crossovers divide the total sound and split the parts that need to go to each amp. and eq dips certain frequencies (or boosts them). The two are not the same. You only need one EQ.
