Getting through the firewall?

It isn't the rain I would have worried about. It's the sheetmetal cutting the wire that's the problem and why you use a grommet.
Oh I agree -- at least on their second go around where they actually drilled the hole. That is exactly why I went in and added the grommet yesterday. Roughly cut sheet metal on wire is obviously a bad thing and any instalation shop worth a crap should know better.

But I am not sure I explained what they did the first time very well. They actually pushed the factory grommet to the side -- which left a gap large enough to let in a ton of water.

And left a bare metal edge next to your wire...
Well, I was not too happy about either result of the faulty installation.

But when I was really pissed about the electrical aspect of it was when there was a newly drilled rough hole that they passed the wire through. Not to mention that was the second go around. Don't get me wrong -- I fully understand that you don't want the metal where it will rub against the wire.

I don't like installations that present the opportunity to burn my shit up.

But I also don't water pouring in my vehicle either. What they basically did was to remove the seal the first go around. Water coming in was not a possibility, it was a certainty.

there really isn't much water hitting the firewall unless you drove into a lake. the grommets are to protect the wire from the metal edge.
Sorry, but you are wrong. An *** load of water can come through the firewall.

I think we are talking about two different things. I am not taking about the hole that we drill in order to run one strand of wire for our amps. I am taliking about the grommet that is there from the factory that covers a fairly sizeable hole (at least in my vehicle). You effectively remove that and you will be drying out some carpet my friend.

The spot where my factory harness goes through the firewall stays bone dry. Its tucked so far up underneath the cowl and behind the fender that there is no way water is getting there.

I tell you what, go find a 99 4 Runner. Open the hood. Pull the factory grommet to the side. Close the hood. Take a hose and dump some water on the winsdhield. Now go check the carpet. I Gaurantee that you will find water.
