Getting back into hobby after being gone 9 years

I was into car audio in 2001 and 9 years later I have noticed prices are cheaper.

Not highend but decent equipment in 2001...

HU costed about $250 now you can get decent ones for $150-200?

Components costed $200-250 now it seems to be around $150

2 channel amps 100w@4ohm costed $200-250 now it seems to be $150

I'm talking avg mid range stuff.

And what are the major improvements have been made since 2001 on components? I can't imagine it changing much in the next 5-10 years.

I noticed the same thing. What's funny is that the stuff that was selling back then is coming back around as "old school" and selling for the same price as it was retail.

Car audio is just like most electronics now-a-days. Better, smaller, cheaper. Well, maybe not better, but the technology is.

car audio is on the heavy supply side of the supply/demand curve. Way more brands out there and way more product available making the prices go down. think of how big the car audio section was on ebay 8-9 years ago and now look at it today. HUGE difference. Not to mention retailers having to compete with the resale market created by forums and craigslist. In order to compete (sometimes with their old stuff) companies have had to slash prices
