General System Advice re system and THD - request for :)

Hey, I'm clued up as far as home audio goes - know what I like - know what I need - always on the lookout for some sweet component to up the power and lower the THD.

But car audio is a little hazy - home audio rules don't quite apply - the car is a noisy environment no matter what you do - but worse, since I've an older 1973 Valiant. It's going to be louder than your latter day carpeted and aluminium mobile.

My question is this:

How low THD-wise is going to be over-kill?

I'm looking at an Alpine set-up with .08%THD - which isn't too bad - but I can get 1%THD for about half the price.

I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts on this - whether the .08 is overkill and the 1 just fine. Whether it's an obvious choice, or really going to be up for personal preference...
