Gauge for speaker wire

I'm sure that this has been talked about a thousand times, but my search didn't pull up exactly what I was looking for... so I'll ask again.

What gauge wire is typically run to the speakers? My amp is going to push 56 watts to the speakers and 285 to the sub. Will 18ga be sufficient? Should I use bigger wire for the sub?

Ok not tryin to take your thread here, but I got a 600 watt amp (jblbp600.1)on 2 subs with 16 or 14 gauge wire(cant remember). Would it be a good idea to go to a bigger wire?

Would I gain anything if I did?

Thanks

Just make sure not to use cheap metal connectors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Considering the size of the tinsel leads, I dont think it matters if you use anything over 14-12g..
