When I was setting the gain on my amp the kx1200.1

I connected the DIMM to the speaker terminals on the amp played a 50hz test tone and to even get close to 34.6 volts AC I had to turn the gain like 65% up and I was geting aliitle uneasy about seting it that high so i turned the bass boost up about 15% of the way

is it normal to set the gains that high?

the HU was on 45 out of 62 volume wise and the "EQ" setting was on "Powerful"

No other bass boost's were on in the HU and only a 50HZ LPF was on for the door speakers

I ended up seting it at 31volts AC

is that normal? for the gain have to be set that high?

In my experience I have never had to turn the gain up more than 1/4 the way to get the output i wanted. Even on my old JBL 601.1 i got 30 ac volts wuth 1/4 the gain. You are definately doing something wrong.

not neccesarily. you might have a low pre-out head unit, and combined with no bass boost or other really high equalizer settings. plus, you only turned it up to 45, I set my gains to the 50-55 volume range. if you are getting the desired voltage at 65% gain, your not doing anything wrong.
