Gain setting for a RF punch800a2 powering a 12" type R

Allright, so my amp is a RF punch800a2, that will be powering a 12" Type R. I will run it at 2 ohms, and the amps pushes around 1000-1100 RMS. Now... people are telling me to keep the gain low. I already read the tutorial and calculated that my gain would be sqrt(1100 rms*2 ohms). giving me a total of 46.90 volts. Should that be my gain? or should it be lower, since the amp is to powerful for the speaker. Thanks guys!

EDIT: The type R speaker is a 4ohm DVC. I belive its 500rms. Thanks.

2nd edit: Just realize that the formula should be sqrt(500*4) right? since ill run 4ohm bridged and the speaker rms is 500 right? thanks...

Well you can wire your sub to 2 ohms or 8 ohms and the 800a2 is bridged at 4ohms, so...

sooo....? I dont get it... should my gain be 13.8 v? If my speaker holds up to 500 watts RMS, shouldnt the formula be sqrt(500*4), giving me a total of 44.72?

you need a dual 2 ohm sub or a different amp

He could always wire the coils in series to provide an 8 ohm mono load to the amplifier. At 8 ohms mono, he should receive the same 4 ohm stereo power, which would be 400 - 500 watts RMS. Although that amplifier may run at 2 ohms mono, it will more than likely run hot and draw excessive amounts of current.

No he doesnt(need a diff setup). Wire the sub in paralell and wire it to the amp as 2ohm stereo load. That will give that sub about 500rms. Set the gain according to your deck preouts

That amp will blow that speaker to shit at 2ohm mono. He can run 2ohm stereo, or 8ohm bridged (optimal)

I wired a Memphis M3 dvc4 to my 800a2 at 2ohm stereo in a sealed box, and it performed great. It sounded better than my 2CVRs in Kicker ported box by far.
