Gain Question

The Wistles Go WOOOOOO!
if i wanted to set a hifonics bx1605d for about 1200 wrms @ 1ohm , id set the voltage to ~35 correct? heres the problem: what if the amp wont put out that much power? if the amp will only give me 1000 wrms, then by settign it to 35 volts in an attempt to get 1200 id most likely be clipping the amp right?

That is the same thoughts I have on setting gains with a DMM. If an amp will not do it's rated power cleanly you will most likely be clipping the signal. On the other hand if you have an amp that exceeds it's rated rms specs you will not be using the amp to it's full potential. True??

i usually just turn the gain down a little from the voltage to be safe. also if your playing music you won't be maxing out your amp like you would using a test tone or something. just do the gain tutorial and lower the gain a little bit below the voltage to be safe.
