gain problem(not to do with setting it)

ok i just got a used cadence zrs-9 and when i hooked it all up and powered it and went to change the input lvl, it wouldnt change anything, like it the subs wouldnt get louder or quiter and i couldnt send the subs into clipping no matter how far i turned it either way, but theres some facters involved. i havent gotten around to installing 0/1 gauge wire yet so it waw unnign of 8 ga(i kno ikno bad) but it was only hooked up to a 4 ohm load aka suposobl;e only 100w rms, could those be factors into why there was no change? but right now i took it to a local car audio dealer who does free benchtesting and looking at amps, so im having them bench the amp at 4 ohms 2 ohms and 1 ohm to see if the amp is good

I think the gain pot is broke.
