Gain @ per speaker or couple?

Hey, when adjusting the gains on my amp to my speakers (channel 1,2) say its halfway on a 600 watt dual channel amp and its set at 50%, does that mean im pushing 300 watts into the speakers or 150 a peice?
First, setting the gain at 50% tells us nothing about the power output of the amplifier. The gain simply determines how much input voltage is required from the source for the amplifier to achieve full power output. If, for example, setting the gain "to 50%" equates to a 1V signal being capable of driving the amplifier to full power output and you supply a 1V input signal to the amplifier you are going to receive full power output from the amplifier.

Secondly we wouldn't be able to answer your question because we have no idea what that 600w rating is. Is that for the amplifier as a whole, or per channel? Is it peak/max or RMS? Is that 600w rated at the load you have connected to the amplifier?

Sorry, to be honest I kind of just jumped into the car audio deal because I love music.

My amp is rated @ 600x2 bridged RMS. My gains are almost full on channels 3,4 (subwoofer channels) because the RMS on the sub is 500 watts. I thought that was an accurate way of adjusting them, and the sub sounds really clear and tight.

I guess I just need to mess with the gains on my speakers (1,2) and see what I think sounds best. I have a good ear for noticing distortion and I hate it. Im going for SQ but I want me speakers to compensate my sub, while my sub still hits hard. Im only running front coaxles even though I planned on running all four speakers.

Sorry if I wasnt specific enough.
