Fuse holder and fuse size question

I'm gonna be running about 1100 watts total power through 4 guage wire (amps are mounted under the seats, so 4 gauge will do for a short distance.

The amp kit from knukonceptz has an AGU 80amp fuse holder w/ fuse. I'm ordering speakers from TheZeb and I have anotehr opportunity to order fuses and a holder.

I should get 150 amps, right?

I was told to add up the total amperage you would be pulling through the wire and get that size.. but others here say to get the one for the size of wire so it would melt incase of overload. but I'd say that 80 is probably plenty.

I think the logic behind it is the 1100 watts is RMS. If you have peaks here and there, maybe you need a bigger fuse?

What do you think?

If I have 80amps thru AGU it should cover about 1200 watts at 14v.

But then again, what if some songs have a peak? AH so confusing.

You may not be able to find an AGU fuse higher than 80A. Go ahead and use it; if it blows, you'll probably have to upgrade to an ANL fuse holder anyway.
yea, i splurged. i got an ANL inline holder and 2 150amp fuses. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

good decision //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My amps are under-rated (Zed Optidrives) at a total of 1080rms. I've got about 12' of 4 ga with an 80A fuse at the batt and 8 ga to each amp with 60A/30A at the fuse block. It's worked fine for over 2 years now, and I have barely measurable voltage drop.

I always do a little under what my total fuse rating is. When i had my jbl 1200 it had fuses that rated up to 120 amps i think, and I ran a 100 amp fuse off the battery for protection. It may not be needed but I do it to be safe rather than sorry in the long run.
