Funky sound from speakers @ no volume

I have 2-10" JLWO 8ohms in seperate sealed cubes run by a JL 250/1 (up from my sony xplode 300w bridged).

I had both speakers wired on one line to the amp bridged when I had the sony running 8guage wire to the amp. I just swapped the amps and ran the setup again.

This amp can move the speakers!!!!!!!

My ears are now aching more than ever. My concern is that I was driving around and drew down the sound completely and heard a little fuzzzz-like sound coming out like a baloon deflating slowly. No sound, no lyrics, no bad sounding disturbance. It reved down after 5 seconds or so. I thought it might be engine noise but my sound was good before the amp swap. I bumped back the speakers and heard it coming out lightly under the sound and go away.

Yesterday, I pulled the wires and seperated the speakers to the amp. I has 2 + & - for this purpose. I couldn't hear it but I still need to tweak my sys. I was running them at the amp setting of 24db since the manual says this is the best if they are directly firing in the sounding environment.

BTW, all this is set up in a 2001 Toy Tundra AccessCab.

Could it be the higher output in the new amp is just stretching the speakers. I don't think I blew them but who knows. Now and then I hear a small tap in the speakers like when you tap the cap with pen or pencil.

I would makes sure I had good enough gauge wire for the ground and also make sure it is not too long and that it has a nice bare metal connection. Also make sure also make sure your RCA's are not bent or being smashed.

That is what I did and it hasn't come back yet.

The power and ground are @ 8 but I'll probably move up to 4 since that is what the JL rep at the store I bought it suggested. The amp can still run at 8 but he said it would be power hungry and that better output would come from 4 gauge.

My girlfriend had a powered bazooka tube and whenever you would open the door or tunk it would humm a signal that was about 60hz extremely loud. Very odd, I replaced the line level converter and that fixed it.

I have this noise still, I was trying to find a way to explain how it sounded to some other people but I couldnt explain it properly. I have no Freggin clue what it is, I had it with my Tempest and now I have it with my Ti.

I got no idea either, but so far so good and no sound. I adjusted the amp for clipping according to the tutorial on JL this weekend and bumped the sound up and down and it hasn't come back yet.

At first, I thought it could be the stronger JL amp stretching and bumping the subs harder than the Sony Xplod ever could. The wiring at the amp was kinda messed up from the swap. That is, I left it all over the place so that maybe the RCAs were bent somewhat.

For the time being all is well and I'll check on it again to day for any re-occurence.

Well my shit is there without RCA's, and with the gain all the way down. Ill hook up my other amp and see if there is noise coming still. I dunno wtf it is, I guess maybe sometime ill have to take EVERYTHING out and check to see if anything is touching bare metal or if there are any crimps or whatnot.

The sound is back like a bad nightmare! I'll be replacing he 8 awg with 4 soon so hopefully that will help. I just replaced the speakers to JL 10W3v4. I'm thinking the problem might be in there wiring. If not the amp.

I hope is has something to do with the JL amp needing the 4awg wire. I know my Sony wasn't doing this and I'd expect better quality from JL.

I'll be changing all to 4awg and check my 1 c.u. ft. boxes for leaks.

It's weird, it sounds like tunning an am/fm radio looking for a signal, it dies down and then it'll hit. I've read other posts in here about allowing the amp to get some juice/warm up and then it'll hit. I've got a Cap hooked up to this deal that should help.

But it seems like the warm up suggestion does help or make a little sense since it takes like 30 seconds then it slams hard. Odd that my Xplod didn't need to warm up. I think I've found the culprit. In my case, and only in my case, it was the amp. JL's amp just went caput! I replaced the 8 guage wire with 4 this weekend and hooked up my speakers in series they played for a little while then I shut it down to do some clean up.

I went back and turned it on to make sure the adjustments didn't need any fine tuning before I put every thing away. So I turn up the sound and all I get is STATIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I messed around with the setup looking for something I did wrong but I couldn't find a thing. So after hours of checking stuff I decided to take it back to the place I bought it to get it checked out.

The owner was kinda suprised to see me hauling a JL amp back to his place. I guess they don't see this often. He asked me what was up, I told him, and he proceeded to use the sure fire method of finding what's wrong with an amp.......he smelled it!!!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I guess I didn't fry the thing because he had one of his guys check it over.

Long story short the thing had the low impedence light on even without speakers hooked up. It's still under the 90 day warranty with JL so they are sending it back. This sucks I spent a little over $300 for this **** thing to go belly up and get rebuild.

Has anyone had this happen with this amp before?

but nooblet i might just be the amp also. cus if u unplug the rca and the shit still goes off then. I think it is the amp. u plug the power wire and see if that is the case.
