Full gain?

I have a 1200 watt amp at 1 ohm and am running it at 2 ohms. I am wondering if I can put the gain at full (usually I keep it at about 3/4) because I'm only running it at half power? Is the amp working just as hard putting out 600w at 2 ohm as it would pushing 1200w at 1 ohm?

It all depends on when you want the amp to reach full power. If you want your amp to peak at 1/10's the headunits potential then turn up the gain. If you want the amp to peak with the headunit then match them up. You can run an amp with full gain and never clip it....it all depends on your headunit and the volts that it puts out and when you want the amp to peak.

Not saying that you should do this but depending on the input signal it can be done without damage to anything. But yes, it you have a 4v output with an amp's gain all the way up their will be trouble.
