Ok... here's what I did..

Profile 6.5" subwoofer was used for testing..

standard OEM design.. foam surround, phenol treated cloth linear spider

power provided by my subwoofer amp for the computer system..

woofer was tested free air

Room temperature testing

spider temp 76 degrees

motor temp 76 degrees

power input 22v , 2.5a = 55 watts

full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes

in 20 degree F for 1 hour

spider temp 50 degrees

motor temp 38 degrees

power input 22.8v, 2.9a = 66 watts

full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes, no detectable issue with suspension

in 20 degree F for 8 hours

spider temp 48 degrees

motor temp 22 degrees

power input 22.3v, 3a = 67 watts

full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes, no dectectable issue with suspension

so it appears to me that the spider doesn't freeze and break when the woofer gets cold.

Good info............I could send you a 12" L7 to mess around with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Someone send him an AQ HD3 to mess around with. I would but i do not have one or the cash flow to get one at this time. But i would like to see some testing on this sub. If yous don't mind that is.

You need to be like mythbusters and see what it would take.

Liquid Nitrogen FTW.

'Air' cans turned upside down can substitute if you cant get ahold of liquid nitrogen. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'd imagine that you would see a huge drop in impeadance if you got the coil to 73k.
