Ok... here's what I did..
Profile 6.5" subwoofer was used for testing..
standard OEM design.. foam surround, phenol treated cloth linear spider
power provided by my subwoofer amp for the computer system..
woofer was tested free air
Room temperature testing
spider temp 76 degrees
motor temp 76 degrees
power input 22v , 2.5a = 55 watts
full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes
in 20 degree F for 1 hour
spider temp 50 degrees
motor temp 38 degrees
power input 22.8v, 2.9a = 66 watts
full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes, no detectable issue with suspension
in 20 degree F for 8 hours
spider temp 48 degrees
motor temp 22 degrees
power input 22.3v, 3a = 67 watts
full excursion @ 55hz for 2 minutes, no dectectable issue with suspension
so it appears to me that the spider doesn't freeze and break when the woofer gets cold.
