Frequency Dial on Amp? And what's REM?

My Rockford P450.4 amp finally came in, and I was wondering what the frequency dial is for?

It has LP - AP - HP settings and then above it the dial which goes from like 0hz - 400hz... how exactly do I set that?

Also, component speakers should be High pass and Subs be Low pass, correct?

On the amp, it has the B+ power wire slot and then next to it a slot called REM, what exactly is that and do i need to use it? thanks

That is the cutoff either up or down for the frequencies you're trying to block out.

LP = Lowpass (blocks frequencies above setting)

AP = All pass (doesn't block any)

HP = Highpass (blocks frequencies below setting)

Settings aren't general,

- for component speakers set it low enough that it mixes with your subwoofer, but doesn't distort when playing bass frequencies.

- for subwoofers set it high enough that it mixes with the rest of the stereo system, but not so much that it calls attention to itself

Yes, component speakers should be highpassed, and subs lowpassed

B+ = 12v+

REM = remote turn on (you should connect that to either the amp turn on wire of your aftermarket deck, or to a switchable 12v source in you're fuse panel)

I highly suggest you use the search function for further questions (might get better answers)

I cant stress this enough READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL.......

- If you dont have one, look at rockford's website....

Thanks... but what if my RCA cables in the kit comes with a Turn on lead wire attached to them? Do I still need to use the REM slot on the amp?
yeah you still need to use it. The kit has the wire physically attached to the RCA's, nothing more. It just results in a usually cleaner install since they go to the same place anyways. If you didn't connects the remote (REM) turn-on your amp would be getting a signal and power, but it wouldn't turn on.

Can I use a 12 gauge speaker wire for the REM? I want to attach it to my aftermarket deck, but the blue wire behind the deck will be spliced into the turn on lead from the RCA cable, correct? Where would I stick the REM wire to on the deck?

Also, I need to run 2 RCA cables both with that little turn on lead... where exactly do I splice these turn on leads into? Both leads into the blue wire behind the deck?

dude the size of the remote wire can be anything. I use a skinny one, all it is 12 v signal to turn the amp on.

Connect the blue wire from the back of the deck, to the REM wire terminal on the amp. Use a skinny wire.

The ones that are in the RCA's ****, that tend to break/slice very easily.

Just hook a peice of 12guage speaker wire up to the blue/white wire on the back of the HU... then to the REM input on your amp...

The 'remote turn on wire' as part of your RCA is actually there to ground the headunit and amplifier together to reduce variances in ground impedance and eliminate noise.

But most people use it as a remote lead, which is fine.

How do I go about grounding the 2 little turn on wires on my RCA's? Can I just cut them short and not worry about them?

Also, what if my 12 gauge speaker wire has 2 halves, + and - and not just one big wire... will that still work for the REM?

not cool

NG

u were a noob too sometime...

Ull be fine with the tiny wire connected to the rcas. but yes they do splice easily it is true... but plz dont be an idiot and actually tear apart speaker wire to individually grab 1 wire... i will have to shoot u if u do.
