Found a car, may buy it?

Was driving down the road, and my girlfriend spotted a car she likes. It's a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.2L V6, auto *****. leather, all the options. Only thing is it has an engine knock. I looked it up, and I guess sometimes this is a common problem with them, and could just be the exhaust valve swivel pads. The car is listed at just $800, but I think if I took $600 cash with me, they'd give it up. What do you all think? Pass or grab?

how many miles?

whats the condition?

$600 seems like a good price...if it fails you can always sell the parts on ebay and get your money back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

what i always do is keep less in the other pocket and more in the other one. so keep $500 in one pocket on the left and keep $100 on the right. show him the $500 1st he says no then throw another $100 on from the right.

Not sure, haven't called on it yet. Mileage is below 100,000 on the odometer, but I'm not sure if that's accurate. I'm calling them once I can find my cellphone, and see if I have enough money to purchase it, or come up with the money.

an engine knock is a well known problem from not changing your oil on time or running the car hot and causes a rod to slip causing this knock...not a cheap fix...needs to be rebuilt or new motor dropped in.

That's why I don't understand why the mileage matters. If you are replacing or rebuilding the motor, why does the mileage matter?

some interpid parts and parts for my 300M are interchangeable. Don't do it. Then again for 800 it's not too bad. And leather too? You're just in love with that big *** trunk I bet. You looked under the hood yet? Is the battery in the wheel well like mine?

Before you make a move, Price an engine for it. See how much the one with the lowest miles and the price to drop it will be. For all that time and headache, that interior better be mint.

Ask to take it to a mechanic, before I sold mine it had 80k miles on it and ran like new. If you take care of them they are good cars. You just have to be on top of the maintenance.

EDIT: My aunt had to replace an engine in her '04...

Askng price is $800 and if the owner isnt handy with tools or has a hookup for an engine they went to a shop that quoted them alot,I bet thats why the low price.I've seen the cars go pretty cheap, but if you cant do the work yourself or have someone that will do it reasonable might not be worth it.
