For those of you who drive stick...

After driving a stick for the last 10 years or so, I personally can't stand the lag in automatic transmission shifting. Even titronic shifting has this annoying lag that you don't have in a manual car. If all you ever drive is auto, you wouldn't notice it, but once you've gotten used to manual, you notice it right away. My commuter is also manual. Better gas mileage and I prefer having the control.

Been driving a stick since my first car. You def have more control over the car. You save gas. It's more fun most of the time.

Traffic will **** though, bearable but will ****. Also, if you ever injure one leg or arm bad enough you can't drive. Most people don't think about that.

I think the pro's outweigh the cons. Just find someone who can drive manual well teach you, it'll make all the difference in stop and go traffic and on hills.

I've had my 00 mustang six banger five speed for over 7 years now up here in New england. Despite the traffic and hard time getting around in the snow (my only car), I still have way more fun driving my car than any crappy automatic. Oh and that tiptronic is really gay and nothing compared to a real standard.

sticks are fun for about 6 months then get boring.. Sit in traffic for an hour or two and youll hate it! I manually shift my truck in ava because its A LOT more fun (its an auto, but crank it to 6,000 and slam it into 2nd and it gets sqirly) But for a daily, auto is the way to go. Last stick I owned was a 93 Escort.. 5 speed, seldom used 2nd and 4th gears. Always shifted from 1st to 3rd to 5th.

i just got my first regular ***** 2 months ago and ill never go back...much more fun to drive...i find it easier to pass people/ change lanes....way more control over the car....plus who wants to drive a "fast" car thats an auto...no fun

i can imagine u know what your talking about, but do you ever get tired of driving that stick around the entire us? as in everywhere?

thats another reason id get annoyed/nervous
I learned how to drive with a stick so I never evenknew what I was missing. I don't want to make it sound like a hassle because it's not. Under normal driving conditions (freeway, around town) it's not really different.

Where is does become a bit old is when you're in bumper to bumper traffic like a freeway jam. Going from first to second and then back to first gets a little old after doing it for years.

and about hills its not a big deal....youll learn how to use your clutch and brakes so that you have zero roll back....all it takes is a few days of practice..i learned to drive a stick in about 30 minutes

i do agree with everyone though, if your a 9-5er and get stuck in highway rush hour for possibly hours on end every day save yourself the hassle...i think i remember you being younger right....

You are right, driving hills is no big deal, as a matter of fact I prefer driving a stick to an auto in hilly terrain. Particulalry it has an advantage over an auto ***** when using cruise control.

once you learn the clutch, you can modulate it to get any result you desire.

ie. being in traffic, starting in second, fitting your ****** around the shifter.

I prefer manuals over auto's except in high horsepower scenarios, and driving in the city is no problem at all. Those that bitch about it are just insecure in their abilities.

The bad thing about it is you can't do other things as well. Ie, with an automatic car, I can text message or eat while driving, and you can't do that as well with a stick.
I hate driving around people like you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I've been driving stick everyday for 5 years and I'm sick of it. But that's because it's a slow truck. If you get a fun car then it will be more tolerable. But driving stick in traffic sucks no matter what car it is.
