Thinking of Buying a Shotgun, few Q's?

Okie, I tried doing a search, this is basically all I came up with. BTW, I live in Tennessee FTW.

State Requirements

Rifles and Shotguns

* Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No.

* Registration of rifles and shotguns? No.

* Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No.

* Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No.

Now the thing is I'm 19 years old. I basically want something for provided safety that I can legally own. I actually just want to store this in my truck. Is there any rule/regulations on placement of the firearm? I'd probably lock it in the back since I have a bed cover.

I'm also sure it'll need to be locked up, unloaded, etc, but my main concern is if I am to be stopped and if for some reason I was to be searched this weapon is found locked in a case in my bed would I be in anyway breaking the law?

Now if all this goes well then please throw out there some decent shotguns. Also wondering if the applies for assault rifles? I'd love something .223 if I could legally carry one.

dont know much bout guns, but i have heard if you have to take 3 steps to get to your gun (reachover, open glovebox, grab gun) then its legal

as for a cop finding one in its case, i dont think having it stowed away and unloaded will hurt anything. i think people 21 and under are allowed to own anything but a handgun. i think you should be fine but im in no way a gun expert lol, all my friends at my old work did nothing but shoot so ive heard some things.

in missouri you need to have a concealed and carry license, which you have to be 21 to do, which i'm pretty sure you have to be 21 to even purchase a firearm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

you can legally drive around with a shotgun i believe. i shoot trap like as a sport. you don't want to ride around with a loaded shotgun, but if its in a case UNLOADED you should be fine. i live in nashville tn, and shoot at the tennessee clay target complex (nashville gun club). you can leave a loaded shotgun in your house, but i wouldnt advise it because some idiot will kill them self with it. so keep it locked up and unloaded. just make sure you keep proof that you own the firearm.

and i would recommend buckshot for defense btw.

18 good buddy. 21 for hand guns

its gonna vary too much from state to state I would think. CA.com, in this one instance, may not be the place to ask such questions.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Anyway, I was planning on something in the lines of defense. I just wanted to be sure I'd be fine riding around with one of these unloaded in my truck. Now my question to Buck since you live in TN, this holds the same for assault rifles as well? I'd love a handgun but have a couple more years. I'll probably even be getting into the range if I get me a firearm. I'm in Murfreesboro BTW!

you can kill someone with a big gun sober, or kill someone with a tiny gun drunk.

you can vote, ****, be tried as an adult, get married, join the military, smoke, own guns, but can't drink.
