to the ear, it was louder upfiring but i liked the sound better firing forward, sounded more 'natural' if that makes sense

Subs forward and ports up works well for SPL (thats how the usaci guys do it), however, I've never seen it done for a daily install.

you could cut holes and port it thru the back of your cab like those fegs with donks port it thru the wheelwells

4 4's would be enough for a pair of 12's, especially for daily driving/low tuning.

I think you'll be fine. Rule of thumb with aeros is you can get away with half the port area compared to a slot port.

4 -4's will work just fine for 2 12's.

Slot port facing up will be loudest in some instances. If your building it for comp them you need to try several designs and see what works best. When using aero's you may find it to be loudest with the subs up or forward and the port firing to the driver side.
