For the last time, PLEASE: clipping does NOT blow speakers/subwoofers

I already beat you illustrating the math behind it, albeit not as technically //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I skipped a few pages //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

LeMans has come a long way!

Clipping DOES blow speakers because it causes the speaker to overheat and fail.

If it wasn't clipping it wouldn't Overheat.. so clipping was teh cause of the failure.

It's like your saying... The gun didn't kill the person the lack of blood pressure/flow to the brain killed the person.

Thats not always true. You can have clipping without overheating the voice coils. You can have overheated voice coils without clipping. But yes clipping can definitely, albeit indirectly, cause voice coil failure through heat. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But it is directly causing it tho.. It may take a while for the sub to overheat that much from the clipping but the clipping is still caused the sub to overheat and then fail...

Does your motor fail from having no motor oil? or does it fail from over heating and seizing up?

The way people talk about clipping killing speakers is OK //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes and no. Here is why: Clipping will not always cause a speaker to fail. (fact) You can reach thermal capacity without clipping (fact).

Clipping can (key word there) cause overheating and vc failure. But it wont always. There are even times when clipping is desired. There are also different levels of clipping and different kinds of clipping.

You run a car with no oil it will seize every time. Thus the technical difference //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If their is a chance that clipping will cause a speaker to fail than clipping does cause a speaker to fail...

Just because it doesn't happen every time doesn't mean it doesn't happen..

I dunno why this is so hard to comprehend..

Does your motor over heating cause it to seize up and fail 100% of the time? and when I say that I mean get permanently damaged and be needing to be replaced/fixed like a blown speaker..

No.. Often (most of the time) it just over heats let it cool down and you are good to go...
