Fitting amp in a 2000 land rover discovery... help needed!!!

Hi All,

I'm sorry that my first post is a cry for help, but this is really doing my head in and I can't figure out what it is.

I am fitting a sub and amp into my 2000 discovery. I have run a new power cable and found a good ground. I have run a remote and RCA cables off my replacment pioneer head unit. Everything seems good and there is a good 13+ volts reading a the amp (engine running) but when I turn the head unit on, the voltage at the amp drops to 5v and the amp won't turn. When I turn off the radio, the voltage slowly returns to 13+ volts. Thinking it was the amp, I replaced the amp with a brand new one, but the same thing happens with this amp. Does anyone have any ideas....please???

I have done some more trouble shooting, but things are getting worse. There is a 12 volt on the remote, and I disconnected the RCAs and the speaker out. I then got a small loop of wire and touched the 12+ in to the remote in to turn on the amp and it flashed for fraction of a second, now there is only 5 volts at the end of the power cable. I disconnected the power line at the fuse, there is 12v each side of the fuse, but only 6v at the end of the cable.

Could this be a battery issue, a cable issue, or something else??? i have never ever seen anything like this, and really need some inpout from someone, even if it just something to recheck.

baffling problem when i have problems like that i re run the power wire and move the ground. what gauge is it?

thanks for the replay KnockTurnAL, I rechecked the power cable, then re did the ground wire, and as if by magic it works. I am guessing it was a bad ground connection, but it works and thats main thing.
