First good sub, $150 budget.

The Obsidians don't need tons of power. I ran my 15 on a couple hundred watts for a few weeks..it impressed me even on that little amount of power. Put it in a proper enclosure with 500-600 watts and your friend won't be disappointed.
Oh, good to know! As long as it can still fully play the way it's suppose too. He's not looking for any SPL numbers. We occasionally bump the systems but 80% of the time it's normal volume.

btw, does anyone know how good the IA lethal injection is? Some guy he knows is selling a used one for 170. Are they worth the extra cash over what's listed above? As in, will it really be better than a OA or Dcon?

Oh rly? I was curious how the Obsidian would do on that power. I mean like I said, he's not trying to set off alarms but you think in general it needs more than rated?
Dcon was another option, I would of said get the 187 but they stopped making them. There is a new "I series" which is suppose to replace the 187 but I havent seen anyone run/test or even talk about one.

Dont get me wrong the OA will still get down on 5-600watts, but keep in mind another 2-300 and they really come alive.

Overall im very impressed with my OA, was just in the car jamming "put the pipe down" by Kottonmouth kings and even that higher bass was really moving some air, my range @ 33-34Hz tuning is strong 27-50Hz maybe higher. Just a overall sick woofer, you will be impressed for sure

These seem to be a forum boner lately. I'd like to hear one.

I was under the impression that they are more of a SQ sub, and I'm pretty sure the Obsidian would kill them the 20 percent of the time OP says they bump the system, which is probably closer to 80 percent of the time lol.

Not really. Most people prefer Sundown, Obsidian, or IA, here. I haven't seen a whole lot of people here with Dayton speakers, let alone Dayton subs. Maybe you just think you hear about them all of the time because they interest you so much. It might be a sign. I haven't heard either of the Daytons, or the Obsidian, but I still know which one I'd choose over the other and why.

And regarding the output, I truly don't know. You should get an HO if you want to see which would be louder. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

My (maybe possible) dream system would be some one of those dayton subs and some hybrid audio mirus components. Seems like an awesome SQ setup.

Either way, I should probably add the sub will be crossed at around 100hz being he's using stock speakers.

I'll show these too him, I'd say we put the Dcon on the side for now depending on the amp he buys. Anyone else who knows anything about the OA feel free to chime in.

Does anyone know anything about the lethal injection? Does it have anything over the other the OA?

The difference between 600wrms and 800wrms wouldn't be too much, would it? I always thought the general consensus was a double in power was required for a noticeable difference in output

The difference isn't all about output. Depending on the sub you're using, the difference in 200 watts could change the way the sub itself behaves, meaning while it might not be very noticeably louder, it might sound quite different.

Brother if I had the money I'd experiment with a LOT of **** lol.

For all the criteria you have listed, the Dcon is the best choice hands down. Sounds amazing and will get more than loud enough when needed. ~$150 shipped too, what else do you want?

I showed him all these. Wasn't too into the daytons but I might actually look into one.

We couldn't think of any reason the lethal injection would be better than OA. Can you?

So it's pretty down to: OA, SDC2.5 and the Sundown SD series. Or the Dcon if he gets the smaller amp.

I feel its really more down to the SDC or the OA.

Comments between those two would be appreciated.

Thanks!
