First Ever Box Build: 4 DD 1508's

none of my boxes ever turn out that clean.
goodjob.
Thanks really appreciate the compliment.

I'm deciding on whether i'm going to carpet the box or paint it. What do you guys think? I could do something like shiznit did and make it like the same look as my car. Or i could just carpet it in light gray the same color as my car carpet. I'm not gonna do that yet because i just wanna get this thing in and hear it.

Its gonna be around 3.5 cubes @ 40 hz. And so i shouldn't even worry about caulk? should i just drop the subs in and see if there are leaks? and if there are then i should prolly caulk it.
if your worried about leaks use the caulk. but your box looks tight. you wont hear any gain to your ear using caulk. but if it makes ya happy go for it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yea i think im just gonna caulk it just incase there are any leaks. What type of caulk should i use? Brand and type.

I use Titebond 2 or Titebond 3

good ish
Same stuff i used. Titebond 2. Was gonna get titebond 3 but titebond 2 is supposed to dry quicker so i got that.

I use the stuff in the squeeze tube. Sometimes its hard to angle a caulking gun. Anything that says sealant.

hopefully you haven't put the top on yet. get some bracing in there to divide the long side.No need for caulk if you have straight, square cuts.
Yea the cuts are straight and and square. Everything fit very nicely. I'll prolly end up caulking just for precautions because this was my first build.

And on the bracing. I don't think i will need it. The port hasn't been glued in yet. That should give some bracing for the box.

Thanks for the tip. Ill take a look at the squeeze tube.

Got a question guys. Do i have to put wood in the corners to make it an angle. I was just looking at some builds and some of them have it. Will there be a noticeable difference if i do that or will it be the same without it?

You talking about 45*s.

It wouldn't hurt. If anything add extra bracing, but remember to adjust you port accordingle as you lose box volume.

Alright i don't think ill do 45's this time because i already made all the cuts and don't feel like changing the port. And about the bracing. I prolly won't need too much of it because of the port. I think it should be good.

Heres a pick of what the port will look like in the design.

good design and great first effort.

Bracing is underrated and overlooked. It could help that box. From the port to the top for sure. I'll look for the link that talks about bracing. If you see any well built boxes you'll find internal X Y and Z braces for any space larger than 1 sq ft.

when you're done with the box, knock near a corner and note the pitch, then knock in the middle of the lid and notice the pitch. If it's lower, you needed bracing. A well-braced box should sound like concrete.

don't get me wrong, a great first effort.

Thank you. I'll learn from it and prolly brace my next box. Might pick up a couple type r's and compare them to the 4 dd 8's. Or some other subs. I just want something to compare. But on my next box i will do bracing for sure. If i braced this box how much would it throw off tuning. Would it be by alot and noticable? Like i mean just 2 smaller type of braces at the top.
