Finishing a build, old stuff, and new stuff. PICS!

I wanted to make it look finished off and didn't want to go with a big boxy look at first but this was the easiest way to do things and decided I didn't care enough to put too much work into it. I'll save my energy for what is to come. Here are a couple pics of the subs. Still in great shape. Coils look **** good.

I began by cutting a new baffle (not really a baffle, more of a beauty panel) that would cover up all the old bondo and fiberglass. Since the port sits farther back than the subs I had to come up with an idea for how to make it look decent. What I've done is almost make the port longer but not exactly. I wanted it this way but I didn't want to make to port longer and lower tuning. So what I did was make the "beauty port" a little larger than the port so it won't have an affect on the pressure. It also does not press all the way up agains the box so it shouldn't give me any problems. The amp cover is not MDF. MDF proved to be too thick and gave it a crappy look since the amps are rounded. I needed somethig thinner. So I went to Lowe's and was just looking around. I came across some ceramic tile backer board. It's almost a concrete type material that is 1/4 inch thick and although it is somewhat brittle it worked perfect for this application since not much weight was being place on top. With the MDF holding it up all the way around and a small piece supporting the weight in the middle between the amps it worked great. A little auto carpet and it's perfect.

The first problem I had was that my MDF rings were not perfectly centered on the back seat nor were they even from front to back. The beaty panel needed to press flush up agianst the rings so I could get a tight seal. I ended up getting it to fit as tight as possible and then filling the gaps with bondo, then fiberglassing over that to make it strong and airtight. Not the best way to do things but hey, it worked.

These are the only pics I have so far. It's done now and covered in black carpet. Looks really good too. Only problems is that I got some caulk on the carpet. Anyoen have any ideas about how to remove it without messing up the carpet?

I'll post up the rest of the pics another day. I don't have finished ones yet. But just as I'm hooking up the last wire and I'm ready to bump I hear a pop. **** fuses my master NINe.1 blow. I check all my wiring and make a 10 pm stop at wall mart to get more fuses. Put them in and "pop". **** it. So now my amp is back in Newton IA getting worked on. I opened it up just to see it there was any visual damage. There wasn't that I could tell.

I think this may be one of the best pictures I've ever taken. Don't know why I like it so much. Colorful I guess.

quick question about the autotek. there are no visible fuses. does it have an internal fuse or something? I noticed that a lot of RF amps have no fuses. What up with that?
