Man I wish I had been on yesterday when all these posts went up, I have absolutely no interest in running Alpine, but thanks for all the info on that option anyway. Now I have more time to think about what I'm going to do, since I got a better beater unit to play around with (7715X) and maybe in Feb Pioneer will decide to give me a good deal on the P9 combo and I'll have enough money to get it over the DRZ. Thanks for all the info guys, and camshaft YGPM.

The P9 w/o the deq is useless. Its nothing great. They are meant to be used together
Thank you... If you read the thread you would realize that I know that, and in addition a couple other people have posted that the pieces are worthless seperately. You might have noticed in my above post that I mentioned purchasing the P9 COMBO rather then just the DEX-P9 if I get a decent deal on it from Pioneer during the beginning of next year.

If you have no interest in running Alpine, why list it as an option?

So do you have to get that little $200 controller to use the h701... cause it wouldn't be worth it. I have a 9835, I would think you'd be able to control it with that.. but lord knows I've been wrong before...
Nope. Very few headunits actually control all of the features of the H701. With most of them you will need the RUX control unit to set the features of the H701.

just read it...heheIve actually used it w/o the deq. Serious letdown.

It has a 4band EQ...w00t !
Its NOT supposed to be used by itself. Its a high end cd player and thats it. It has outstanding build quality and is made to read cds, send the signal to the processor for processing and thats about it. It has nice pre outs and if you have a nice eq you could have nice results using it without the DEQ. But like me, most would NOT use it by itself.
