I have done a ton of testing with this idea back in early 2000 and when it was all said and done, it was not worth the effort even in my SPL systems. To be honest, I lost DB in almost ever case and the "sound" (which is subjective) never changed enough to say "yep that is better".

 
Really depends on what your goal is...

I've got 3 SPL boxes that have all gained with resin. (My loudest enclosure gained .4 db)

For sq/street beating - I'd agree though, don't bother.

The SPL side is dependent on application. I consider .4 (the average increase I saw was .2 but the wall gained .7) not to be worth the effort. If I was not at least 3db louder I was not loud enough and just rebuilt.

 
I should clarify, I compete in MWSPL - (which is based around clamped power) and .4 db is a pretty appreciable gain for having not changed anything else.

I will agree - it's dependent on application...
