Fiberglass and Chicken wire.....

You must mean expanding foam... because styrofoam will melt as soon as that resin touches it... anyway, if u want to spend the least amount of time and make the least amount of mistakes use an MDF frame...spend most of your time on that part and it'll pay off later... also using chicken wire for a project like this, it'll be hard to get great symetry!

foams is cheap and dose not melt atleast the stuff i use go to the craft store and get a bunch of blocks of the foam you put in the base fake plants it's cheap as dirt and forms really easy

Yep poly and epoxy won't melt green floral foam. I use it alot when I need to create wierd shapes. I get it pretty cheap from wally world as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You could always use the cheap foam and give it a coat of Epoxy....then hit it with the Poly and mat...it'll hold up fine. Just don't mix a hot batch or it will melt. Use the 30 min stuff

the first time i used foam it was the expensive interior foam the green stuff works as good i thought

personally id go with foam if i were you.

just get a really rough sandpaper and a little hobbie saw. should work perfectly. im planning on making cool 6.5 rear stage pods and a surfboard for my next two projects using foam. im gonna go with some of that pink insulation foam fromt he hardware store and just masking tape it.

if u use any kind of chicken wire or other mesh....jus make sure u dont leave it in.....i thought of this a while back and was told there could be apossiblity of magnetic interference w/ the subs......

rofl. i doubt it. did you realize you are putting the sub inside a big metal box called a car? hehe. some sub enclosures are made from diamond plate, yes... chromed steel that is welded together. and subs work fine. im surprised those giant *** magnets dont destroy peoples cell phones when they get too close tbh.

if i were you, i would put the chicken wire in how you want it, then use some kinda paper or somthing and tape it over the entire thing before you stretch fleece so you dont get a million little chicken wire diamonds in the surface of your glassing. its going to take ALOT of sanding to get it smooth like that with the chicken wire imprints.

i still dont think that the chicken wire will have enough strength to support the fleece without buckling.....

mabye you could put random piece of fiberglass down over the chicken wire before you fleece it... or put a whole layer over it. and then do the fleece for a smoother layer...

i dunno. its gonna be tricky as it is.

definatly make the base\rear sides you cannot see out of MDF though, itl be much eaiser!

Oh yea Def, i planned on masking taping the chicken wire and juct use it as a mold, so will be taking it out after. Going to do it in sections athen put it together.

Also, yea the base and sides will be MDF.

I planned on using the heavy chicken wire also. I know the flimsy kind ur talking about, should take the fleece
