Fi Q questions

alright first, i have a 10 in hdc3 in a 1.5 cube box ported to 38hz. Very unhappy with it cause it does not hit the lows i want and has abnoxious port noise at higher volumes. I know i should have gone bigger with the box but it was a limited space aplication so it wasnt possible. It was ran on a sundown 1500d.

That being said, i want to try a Q in a sealed box. I have 2.2 cubes without subwoofer displacement with my max dimensions and my question was, since that is the bottom requirement for the 15, could i get away with it? or would i be much happier with a 12 in the maximum recommended space?

Also, since being run sealed, do you think a Q will the take the 1500 watts beng put out by the amp if i have the bp option?

Thanks a lot for reading!

I would put that Q in a ported enclosure tuned to 32hz with 2 cubes and 25 sq inches of port. Wont have to give up much space and will really go much deeper than the 10" HDC3

i have a 15" Fi Q in a 2.1 cubic ft sealed box and i think it sounds great. it hits both the low and highs very well. i think its the best system i have so far compare to my jl w7 i had before in a ported box. plus i was running a alpine pdx 1.1000 to it and the birthsheet reads 1408 watts...plus my friend has this sub too and he was putting out 1600+ watts to it. My Fi Q has the BP option though. hope this helps...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks for the input... the biggest ported box i can get with my max dimensions without sub displacement is 1.65 so the ported is a no go....

so do you think a 12 in its maximum reccomended size or the 15 in the minimum recomended size would be louder?

i say go with the 15" Fi Q with bp option. more cone area so with it will louder ans sound better, and a 2.2 cubic ft box is already a pretty good size since the recommend box for a sealed fi Q is 2-2.6 cuft.

the 15 should be louder and drop lower. but since it is in its min box size may have the same low freq. output but excel on the upper range

mine is 2.1 after displacement...and i think it sounds great, best setup i ever owned. i can get it loud, but i dont play it too loud, just loud enough for daily use. I still need to dynamat my trunk cuz it gets that loud still.

If you have 2.2 why not do 2-10" Q's or even 2-12"Q's with a bit of polyfill sealed? The Q 12" sounds stupid nice in 1.2ft and I cant imagine with 2.2ft sealed and a bit of polyfill sounding bad. I took 1st in IASCA SQ with 2 12" Q's in 2.4ft sealed off of a Zapco 9.0, then turned around in the same event and hit 142.1db as well! Keep in mind that is a trunk car and TUNED for SQ!!!!!!!!!!

aight thanks for the help!

What result should i expect if i use polyfill? and how would i use polyfill since the sub has the big vent hole in the back, wouldnt it get sucked into the subwoofer?
