Ok so im thinking i want to get a new sub/subs for my birthday. I've got pioneer 10s off and aq1200d now and they cant take it thermally, they burn after while. They dont have a lot of cone area but i can get them pretty loud for my taste. mostly rock and rap. Im looking at 2 10" Type Rs or 1 12", 2 10" kicker CVXs or 1 12", or last a 12" RE SE, cant afford 2 10". I'm assuming i'll get a boost in performance no matter which way i go, but do you think one 12" of any of those would out perform my two 10s now?

these are the ones i have now

I calculated it out, i've got 496 mm^2 of cone area for my two 10s. the 10s type rs beat mine by 164 mm^2 and the cvxs were right behind them. the one 12 RE SE has 480 mm^2, so right around what ive got now, but its a better sub. I'd like to go two 10's but if ican get more performance from 1 12 and save money that'd be great.

Would one RE SE 12" in 2 cubes tuned to 33 Hz with 800 watts off an AQ1200d be pretty loud? I like sound quality, but looking for a tad bit more volume?

whoa...... get 1 15".....it will save more money and you will have more cone area

I thought about it, but how does a 15 sound for rock? Drum kicks and stuff, I mean will it still hit hard? Some people have told me to stay 12" and under for rock because a 15" will sound, 'boomy' and not 'tight'?

Alright, so what im thinking is 1 15" RE SE, the FS is 22 Hz, so tuned to around 30Hz for daily would sound ok? Also, for putting 800 watts on this, and for it to get loud but sound good, whats a good size for 15s? Around 2.5 cubes or so? And it should sound good for daily rock, with some r&b thrown in there? I appreciate the help too, thanks guys.

Edit:

Wow just looked at some things, 4 cubes for one 15? dang I dont think i could afford that kind of space, so should i do a 12" in 2 cubes?

My brother has an SE running on only 400wrms in a 2.0 cube box tuned to 32hz. And it is way too much bass for me. I can literally hear him coming from half a mile away (I live in the country). He has an 06 G6 GT and it makes his piece around the sunroof move up and down about an inch and his map lights just vibrate to beat hell. We played some bass test material and one thing is clear, the SE truly is a low end monster. It wont play as nice and high as mine does but it will eat you up down low. I can't imagine needing anything more.

Now keep in mind I like my music to blend and sound right, not overwhelm me with bass. Which my brother's SE does. But it is also very melodic as well. His front stage needs some major revamping to even come close to keeping up with it. All I hear is some voices and extreme lowend bass. It isn't as loud as the RE HC12 I used to run in a huge ported box with 1200 watts on it 5-6 years ago, but it is definitely enough unless you are are complete basshead. Since I have aged since then and am more of an SQ guy now, I would turn it down a whole lot if I had to drive it every day.
