The XXX and BTL are drivers built for totally different purposes.

i think you're misunderstanding the point.

they're completely different woofers.

xxx="sql" woofer if you want to call it that.

btl=spl woofer.

just because they're the companies top of the line in a sense, doesnt automatically put them in some sort of the same class.

scott designed both of the woofers, as he designed all of RE and FI. so if you want to talk about ability or anything of that nature, scott very well could make either.

I've heard there are only a few true build houses left in America, one being SJA Industries, another TC Sounds (Audio pulse). My question is, where did Fi Car Audio come from? Who is their build house? What subs are similar to theirs? I've also heard Scott came from RE, but thats about all I know. Can anyone here fill me in?

Depending on the driver you are looking for, there are alot of build houses in the U.S. - including one of the biggest in the world (Eminence).

and your missing quite a few on your list, i don think oem is an actual buildhouse but more of a generic term for manufactuers, but i could be wrong

The buildhouse situation in the US is rough right now....and every industry magazine seems to agree. Even Eminence, known as a mainstay in the US, now has more of their production done in China than they do here in North America, if I remember correctly. And TC Sounds has their own set of challenges ahead of them.

For the most part, the US OEM world seems to be smaller guys who work their *** off designing products that are either built in other buildhouses or assembled in the US using Asian steel and magnets. Soft parts still tend to be sourced from the US, though.

ah i thought he was listing all the domestic buildhouses, which was a bit confusing considering RE wasnt a buildhouse

was there an OEM build house too or was i correct in assuming that it was just oem work

I don't know of any that go by the brand OEM. "Original Equipment Manufacturer" tends to mean the type of work that is done.
