fatmat sound deadening?

I've always used second skin and have had no issues whatsoever. Nothing has fallen off in the two years I've had it in my truck. It's had no problem surviving 100+ degree humid weather here in Dallas...not to mention Ant is a great guy and their CS is superb.

Ive used both second skin and fatmat. Both do what they are supposed to but the second skin is definitely a better product. I have heard that fatmat doesn't do so well in long term adhesion but that didn't matter to me at the time because I don't keep my vehicles for a long time.

Ryan dont make me come down their!

I swear if this crap dont work im gonna beat ya w/ the remaining roll

If you've got to clean the surface of your car, and then use a heat gun to apply deadener, it sucks.

With secondskin, you peel off the backing, stick it on, and it's stuck for good. All I used to apply mine was the butt of a screwdriver, and it's sticking with a vengeance.

I would just wipe the surface down with a wet rag to get dirt off, other than that, I had to do nothing but peel and stick...and it stays.

The reason I asked if he used it before is cause I know a lot of people will say FatMat sucks, or this other company sucks more. And it's a baseless opinion. I can see if someone applied it correctly and had problems with it, thats fine. But I'd be willing to bet the majority of these people saying it "sux" have never actually used it, or applied it incorrectly and had problems with it. They are posting their opinion like it's based on facts, but they are just repeating what they saw someone else post in a forum. I've heard that Raamat is a good brand, same with secondskin, but I've never used it or personally known anyone thats used it, so I won't post an opinion on those brands. The only ones I've tried were Stinger Roadkill, and the Fatmat. The Stinger was thin, not very sticky, cheap and fell of most places within a month. The Fatmat is extremely sticky and once applied correctly I couldn't pull a piece off, I tried.
I have not used it, and yet it is not a "baseless opinion." Go figure.

The instructions never said to use a heat gun, but since I was applying mine when it was 40 degrees out I took the extra step and used it. Any kind of mat you use is supposed to be applied at around 70 degrees, and the mat itself should be at room temp before you apply it. Since it was cold out I used my heat gun. Besides, if you happen to miss a couple spots when your using your screwdriver handle the heat gun ensures that the entire surface of matt is stuck to the metal.

You are correct. Secondskin, Rammat, Dynamat Pro -- I have never had to heat any of it to work, lol.

So I'll assume that you had bad luck with it, or are you another one jumping on the "Hate Fatmat" bandwagon?
Oh no! If I had the Bonneville still to show you...lol It went on great I was stoked my fingers were all blue, no air pockets yeah baby! About 2 weeks later it looked like the FatMat took a huge shit in my trunk. I cleaned with Jet engine cleaner(3 oz. to a gallon of water) then an Acetone bath it dried for about an hour cuz fumes were crazy...lol

Applied with knife, roller, heat gun, and a rubber mallet(always).

The trunk lid was the worst! It wouldn't stay on there for nothing.

ok, then how do you base your opinion on it since you never used it and can't say for a fact that it doesn't work?
Shit son, I research this kinda shit before I buy. It takes about 15 minutes tops. I am not going to buy something that I know is not really made for my intended use just to prove a point. Use it all that you want -- I don't really care how bad you fVck up your shit or how much money you waste.
