(2) Idq10v3: Sealed Or Ported @ 250w Each

Very shortly, I will be getting two IDQ10v3 and will be powering them with 500w (250w per sub). I've always used sealed boxes and for once wanted to try a ported box for a little more output. Do the new IDQ subs still retain great SQ when they are placed in ported boxes compared to sealed, and if anyone has tried using both enclosures, which one have you found more to your liking?

Also, how big of a ported box do two of these subs need to go into and at what frequency to retain the best SQ? I couldn't find the info on ID's website so I also tried to ask over at their forum as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thx

Edit: OK, I did find how big the ported box needs to be and at what frequency, so that part is taken care of.

James, the universal box specs posted by ID is 1.2cF @ 30hz which I am planning on using. They do have a ported box design (2cF @ 30hz) which I believe might have been for v2, and that is considered compact for the v3. I will PM aeon to see what his thoughts on either setup is the way to go.

I have an IDQ12v3 sealed on 600wrms and it does great, sounds perfect but the output is only decent, not great. Plenty for my pickup, but might not be enough for bassheads.

Back in the day, I had (2) JL Audio 12W0s off like 300w and that got pretty loud for my tastes and my parents said they could actually hear me coming home down the street. Get to the point, I'm sure the bass will be loud enough for me since my primary goal is for it to blend in well with the front stage. I'm not really a basshead, but just want to know its there...

Decided against the ported box and either going with a sealed or IB setup. Talking with Eric Stevens ATM to see what he has to say which is the best route to go.

He'll probably tell you to go IB. That's what he recommended me to do with my Idmaxs.

i think you'd be fine with a pair of 10" IB'd through your ski pass.

Looks very similar to mine:

As long as you get a good seal, you're good to go.

I suggest you go IB. More efficient, less weight, more trunk space, sounds great, and killer lows.

and BTW, those IDQ v.3s are very very nice subs. I wish I had the funds to go with 2 12"s. I had to settle with v.2s.

I wish I could have gone with the IDQ12v3s, but couldn't bring myself paying over $550 on two subs when I already spent too much $$ on my gear as it is.

If I'm able to go IB then I will, be if not, then sealed will be the way to go. I just like the way an IB setup looks and this will be my final audio system for awhile, so might as well do it the way I want to.
