Fastest Sub??? 3 questions

I think these all would do pretty good for what you are after. IDQ, PG rsd, ARC 10d & FD10, Alumapro, Eclipse-most of this are not going to be some crazy large air moving subs but will get loud and give good SQ.IMHO I prefer sealed enclosures though. As always this only IMO.

WTF-Good answer with no explination. This helps out alot.

How about this answer-Just buy a 10", 12" or 15" sub, build a box they work great.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I am going to have to disagree with everything you said right there.
"The cone fibers like Kevlar, polyester and Sisal allow less material to have higher strength than conventional cones and this low mass contributes to a fast transient response, which in turn lowers distortion."

From DDs 9500"g" description

As for power increasing a subs "reaction" times, think of it like this... An electromagnet is pushing and pulling an object, if you increase the power of it, it will be able to pull faster, harder, and stop quicker and return faster and harder. That is probably why companies utilize large magnets and lightweight cones?

And how is it going to sound worse at lower volumes, because with such little cone movement, there is very little inertial to deal with, the more cone movement, the more intertial and the harder it will be for the subwoofer to reproduce the signal...also known as distortion.

And I agree with GenXXs list of subs, the Titanium is a great sounding sub, but they stopped making them and I just sold my last two.

Is there a subwoofer out there that is considered faster than others? Is it possible to make a sub hit faster and cleaner with EQ tricks? And last but not least, is an 8" sub more capable of hitting faster than a say....12"??

"Pinkbox Special - Nice Guys Finish Last" is the name of the song. Its on the album called Creamfields mixed by Paul Oakenfold. It has a very fast hitting deep bass line. I brought the CD in to a couple stores by my place including Best Buy and Circuit City and tested a few subwoofers out with the track mentioned above. The subs I tested were the Polk MOMO's, Type R's, and the Kicker L5's and none of these subs could keep up with the bass line no matter what settings I tries to tweak. None of the subwoofers mentioned could separate every bass hit and it was an overall muddy sound. I listen to alot of music similar to the track listed above. So im looking for a woofer that has good output, hits low, and most importantly, can hit fast enough to separate all the fast bass lines in the music I listen to. Any help is much appreciated fellas.

Is the IDQ generally considered more of a SQ sub than the IDMAX is???

Personally, I would consider it more an SQ sub, but think of the IDMAX as an SQL sub. Either sub is a great sq choice, the max basically is the same sub, just with bigger and better features giving it a larger motor structure, more excursion, and more spl. But, thats just my opinion as I am not overly familiar with ID

My apologies, I got off topic. It is easier to make an 8" more accurate than a 12", but it is possible to make a 12 extremely tight and punchy. A very small sealed box that is well sealed and a good eq to eliminate any frequencies that the sub doesnt need to waste time trying to produce, good clean powerful amplifier that is well suited to the subwoofer, and tons of other tuning tricks out there.

The subs you listed are not going to hit every bass note, especially the way they are setup and the boxes they are in. The boxes they are in are to give the sub a broad range of response to appeal to many tastes in sound and music. PM with your car and all your other information and I can help you as it will probably be like a page long.

Thats the way I always thought about the physics of a sub, but I've never really confirmed this as truth......can anyone verify this is (obviously lamens terms) the way a sub basically gains its characteristics in relation to magnet size/power/cone weight?

I hate your face, azbass. And for a less cliche quote make your ****ing avatar message "ZANG!". It references both a less obvious quote from that movie and the languistic subtext for your race in america. ****face.

Also this might sound like a dumb question but did you set your LPF too high? If you set it too high you might get a lot of bass that is too high for your sub sent to it, but setting it lower might let more consistently low tones hit it making the bass notes more "separate".

I mean, if you had your sub's LPF set to like 500hz it would sound muddy and basically like crap, whereas 60Hz would only let nicely subwoofer-friendly frequencies through.
